After coming back from the countryside I stayed one more night in Karakol. My bunk room was taken so I was given this huge room with my own piano. The price includes a multi-course sit down dinner.

Wow this is actually great. Wouldn’t mind splurge on places like this once in a while
You guys are so funny! The decorating alone was horrifying, I liked the bunk bed room (in the same house) much better. Also, since it was so big it felt bit creepy at night. I also love that $8.90 is a splurge!
Kyrgyzstan has a wonderful network of homestays which are closer to $10 (you’ll see one today) an a really great way to see the country.

Karakol is a cute little town but pretty crumbling. There’s not much to do at all. Go to the market (there’s probably a special day when the animals are sold) and walk around town. There’s some interesting wooden churches and if you lurk around someone will eventually let you in and show you around. The place I stayed was interesting. Its owned by a guy named Valentine and if you get a chance head up to the mountains to his place up there. Its pretty close to being shut down for the season though.
